Razer Phone 2 Announced, Rely on Snapdragon 845 Chipset

The smartphone gaming segment is now an interesting part, considering that many consumers today are fond of playing games on mobile devices because mobile games now offer quality that is not inferior to console or PC games. As a pioneer Android gaming smartphone, Razer recently introduced its second-generation gaming smartphone called Razer Phone 2.

As a second generation, of course, this smartphone must bring improvements from the previous generation. Razer Phone 2 features a 5.7-inch screen with IGZO LCD panel, where the screen resolution is QHD and has a 16: 9 aspect ratio. This is a very good display to support multimedia. The new panel also makes the screen 50% brighter, reaching 580 nits from 470 nits in the previous generation.

In addition, the smartphone screen panel also maintains a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, which is sure to spoil gamers. It also supports HDR and DCI-P3 features a wide color gamut for better visuals for games and videos. Not only brings an increase in the display parts, Razer Phone 2 is also equipped with the most powerful hardware today, the Snapdragon 845 chipset.

This smartphone is equipped with a new steam room cooling system, where the goal is that the chipset does not experience thermal throttling. In addition, this smartphone has 8GB of fast RAM and 64GB of UFS storage.

Internal storage capacity does not get an upgrade to a larger capacity, and that's a disappointing thing about this smartphone, so far. But there is a microSD slot for expanding storage, but it should be noted that it is not as fast as UFS.

For a battery capacity of 4,000 mAh and now supports QuickCharge 4.0+ and fast Qi wireless charging up to 15W. Because it supports wireless charging, Razer Phone uses glass material for the back panel. In addition, this smartphone also has an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance.

The thing that characterizes the Razer smartphone is the logo on the back which is now RGB backlit and supports Chroma. Razer also has a pair of USB-C noise-canceling headphones that can synchronize RGB lighting as well (accessories sold separately). There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but Razer bundles the 24-bit DAC dongle with the phone.

There is a dual-camera setup on the back which brings Sony's new image sensor. The main image sensor is 12MP which has Dual Pixel AF and optical image stabilization (OIS) and has a bright f / 1.75 lens. While for the secondary there is a 12MP camera with a telephoto lens with up to 2x optical zoom capability and an f / 2.6 aperture. The 2160p video recording of mobile phones is now up to 60fps and there is a 1080p slow-mo mode @ 120fps.

For the selfie camera, most of it does not change, with the fix focus 8MP camera, although this camera gets support for 1080p video capture at @ 60fps. Luckily, Razer Phone 2 brings back the stereo speakers that are facing forward. They are Dolby Atmos certified and each is powered by a special amplifier. Even though it's still running Android OS 8.1 Oreo, the company promises an OS upgrade in the near future.

There is a new application called Cortex which will be released soon to replace Game Booster. This will offer per-title game optimization and resolution settings, image frequency, and even CPU clock speed. Pre-order Razer Phone 2 is available on the US market at a price of USD 800
